Grounding and Earthing Products
Proper grounding limits effects of lightning, overvoltages (spikes and surges) and inadvertent contact (shock or arc). It promotes stability of operating voltages in all cases, and assures proper operation of correctly installed circuit breakers.
- Lightning Protection: Proper grounding provides the lowest impedance path to ground for lightning induced spikes and surges, minimizing effects of changes in ground potential, called Ground Potential Rise.
- Overvoltages: Proper grounding, especially when used in conjunction with surge suppression devices, provides a stable reference for transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS) as well as controlling current-induced voltage differences between neutrals and ground for sensitive equipment.
- Inadvertent contact: Proper grounding of equipment enclosures and other metal non-current-carrying elements of a site reduce or eliminate opportunities for potential differences between items. Accidental human contact will not produce shock, nor will equipment damage result in such situations.
- Operating voltage stability: Proper grounding eliminates power supply variations due to changes in load, maintaining precision of very low DC levels such as those in today’s digital equipment. It also controls multi-phase variations due to switching of loads.
- Circuit breaker operation: Proper grounding assures accurate and timely operation of breakers by providing the lowest impedance fault-current paths practical, to ground.
NOTE: circuit breakers in many cases do not always prevent damage caused by faults, even if they operate instantly. In the event of fire caused by the fault, for example, the fire may continue on its own once started. However, the circuit breaker prevents further current from aggravating the situation.
Electrolytic Grounding Systems
TerraDyne®
TerraDyne® EGS is a multipurpose grounding system. It has been designed to provide long term protection from lightning, electrical transients, static discharges, electro-magnetic interference and other electrical hazards. The system may be used for virtually any application where the protection of machinery, electronics, and personnel is important. Read more »
Exothermic Welding
TerraWeld®
The TerraWeld® Exothermic Welding System provides the ultimate in permanent molecular bonding. The process of exothermic welding, in which no outside source of heat or power is required, is the universally preferred method of making electrical connections of copper-to-copper or copper-to-steel.
